Can I apply PPF over ceramic coating?Updated 7 months ago
It is not recommended to apply Paint Protection Film (PPF) over a ceramic coating. Here’s why:
Why You Shouldn’t Apply PPF Over Ceramic Coating:
- Adhesion Issues: Ceramic coatings are designed to create a slick, hydrophobic surface, which can prevent the PPF from properly adhering to the vehicle. This could lead to lifting, bubbling, or peeling of the PPF over time.
- Durability Concerns: Since the PPF won’t bond as well to the coated surface, it may not perform as effectively, reducing its ability to protect against scratches, chips, and other damage.
What to Do Instead:
If you plan to apply PPF on a vehicle that has a ceramic coating:
- Remove the Ceramic Coating First: You’ll need to remove the ceramic coating before applying PPF. This can be done through polishing or using specific products designed to strip the coating.
- Apply Ceramic Coating After PPF: Once the PPF is installed, you can apply a ceramic coating over it. This approach provides the best of both worlds—protection from the PPF and enhanced gloss and hydrophobic properties from the ceramic coating.
By applying the ceramic coating on top of the PPF, you’ll ensure both the film and coating work together effectively to protect your vehicle.
