Do you need Sensor or No Sensor?Updated 8 months ago
Tesla has made significant updates to its Model 3 and Model Y vehicles over the years, particularly with the removal of ultrasonic sensors in favor of its new "Tesla Vision" system. Knowing whether your Tesla is equipped with these sensors is essential, especially when selecting the right accessories or installation kits.
When Did the Change Happen?
Model 3 and Model Y (With Sensors):
All Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles produced before October 2022 are equipped with ultrasonic sensors. These sensors can be identified by the 6 round sensor cutouts located on the front and rear bumpers.Model 3 and Model Y (Without Sensors):
Starting from October 2022, Tesla began producing Model 3 and Model Y vehicles without ultrasonic sensors. Instead, these models rely entirely on Tesla's "Tesla Vision" system, which uses cameras to perform functions previously managed by the sensors.
How to Identify Your Model
To figure out whether your Tesla is equipped with ultrasonic sensors, simply examine your vehicle's front and rear bumpers:
With Sensors:
If you see 6 round sensors on the front or rear bumper, your Tesla is equipped with ultrasonic sensors. When selecting kits or accessories, choose options labeled "WITH SENSOR CUTOUTS."Without Sensors:
If there are no round sensors visible on your front or rear bumper, your Tesla is a non-sensor model. In this case, select "NO SENSOR CUTOUTS" when purchasing kits or accessories.
